Join us on Saturday, June 11 as PAA WoW collaborates with Mount Wilson Bicycling Association (MWBA) to work on a local trail. MWBA does regular trail maintenance keeping riders safe in the area. As more of our members are going off-road, we are taking the opportunity to learn and contribute. This trailwork day is open to all of PAA members and guests.

We will work on the Gabrielino trail, directly above JPL, one of the best ‘beginner rides’ on the dirt in the area. It is intermittently paved double track with beginner friendly stretches of singletrack. 

 

Please note that gravel or mountain bikes are strongly encouraged for this event. The amount of improvement that can be achieved on the entire trail would be limited without them.

 

We will work from morning until noon on the trail and have lunch together at a nearby park afterwards. MWBA is kindly providing the necessary tools and guidance for trail work.

 

The most important things to bring are:
  • A small backpack with water and snacks for a full morning on trail. MWBA will provide lunch after we exit the forest, but snacks and hydration are up to the volunteers during the mornings activities.
  • A dirt capable bicycle in good working order. Mountain and gravel bikes can access the planned work sites. 
  • Long sleeve shirt, long pants, closed toe shoes for trail work. It is OK to change into long sleeves once we finish riding into the worksite. If riders are using clipless pedals, I personally recommend bringing a change of shoes for better traction off-bike when working. 
  • A bike helmet for those riding in
  • Suntan lotion
  • MWBA will provide hard hats and gloves for all volunteers who need them
  • MWBA will provide all tools and equipment needed
