About this event

WE Ride for Sunday, December 22, 8 AM: Emeralds from SoPas

This week’s WE Ride offers a relaxed spin with friends before the holiday celebrations get into high gear. Our route starts with a ramble along the San Gabriel foothills, including Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre and Monrovia, as a warm-up. We then follow the classic Emerald Necklace route on the SGRT and Rio Hondo river trails before returning to SoPas through San Marino. With modest climbs and pleasant scenery, this is a perfect way to kick back before the holidays.

Start: 8:00 AM across from TJs in South Pasadena (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Nf1neiXwsyVk46YS8). There is abundant parking on Grand Avenue.

Route for Downloadhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/49277245 . The regroups are marked on the map.

Distance: 57.3 miles

Elevation gain: 2400

Coffee or Lunch: Riders are welcome to stop for lunch or coffee at the corner of Mission and Fair Oaks, where options include Starbucks, Chipotle, Habit Burger, and Rice & Nori, with plenty of outdoor seating. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/qdtJwB69JTXW8GbC8)

Weather Forecast: The weather is forecast to be cool with mixed clouds and sun. Starting temperatures in South Pasadena should be in the mid-50s, rising to the upper 60s by the end of the ride.

Please keep the following in mind when joining the WE Rides:

• Download the route prior to arrival.

• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.

• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on many WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).

This is an informal self-supported ride and not an official PAA sponsored ride. Neither PAA, the ride leaders, nor the route creators should be held responsible for any accident or injury that may occur during the ride. Please ride safely.
