After another year of exciting Weekend Endurance rides, here’s your chance to finish 2024 strong with a special century ride along river trails and the beach.
Whether you are trying to complete the PAA Century Challenge or the Festive 500 or to work off that extra pound gained from holiday indulgence or just want to have a fun day hanging out with your PAA buddies, this ride is for you!
Starting from Sierra Madre, we’ll take the familiar path down the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel River paths, then turn left at the coast, enjoying the beach scene from Seal Beach to Huntington Beach, before turning up the Santa Ana River trail. Our route back takes us up through Anaheim and Fullerton (with a coffee/lunch stop), then west along the Whittier Greenway back to the SGRT and home. To allow riders to complete a century before winter dusk, the ride will start at 7 AM instead of our usual 8 AM!
Start: 7:00 AM on Sunday, December 29, at Memorial Park near the center of Sierra Madre (https://maps.app.goo.gl/DNzrXNu6Je6bbeP4A?g_st=ic ).
Easy on-street parking, or in the lot nearby off Mariposa, close to Baldwin Ave. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/tfy5KeTdqQDNkrx87?g_st=ic).
Route for Download: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49317532
Distance: 101.4 miles
Elevation gain: ~1900 feet
We expect 1-3 pace groups to form during the ride, so you will likely find someone at a comparable pace to ride with! We also plan to regroup at several locations (indicated on the route). However, in consideration of the other riders, we will not be able to wait for an excessive amount of time at each regroup.
Coffee or Lunch: Farmer Boys or Starbucks in north Fullerton (https://maps.app.goo.gl/saGFuxLiRipxdPGA7)
Weather Forecast: The weather is forecast to be cool with mixed clouds and sun, with morning overcast burning off as the day continues. Starting temperatures in Sierra Madre should be in the upper 50s, rising to around 70° by the end of the ride.

• Download the route prior to arrival.
• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.
• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on many WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).
