About this event

Take advantage of the cool spring weather while it lasts with the classic Parks & Paths route from Descanso Gardens to Griffith Park. If you haven’t gotten your bicycle out of winter storage yet, now is the time!

The route heads uphill from Descanso in La Cañada-Flintridge to the top of Las Tunas Canyon, offering an exhilarating descent before rolling back through the Glendale foothills. Once we reach Griffith Park, it’s the perennial favorite Trash Truck Hill climb, then down to the Griffith Park Observatory for a break. We descend through Los Feliz and close our loop around Griffith Park before heading down the LA River Bike Trail to our coffee break at La Colombe in Frogtown, which has excellent pastries and free chilled sparkling water. The way home takes us up the Arroyo Seco river path and past the Rose Bowl to Descanso Gardens.

Start Time: 8:00 AM outside Descanso Gardens in La Cañada-Flintridge

Route for Download:https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41299433

Distance: ~52 miles

Elevation gain: ~3200 ft

Weather Forecast: Saturday is forecast to be cool with mixed sun and clouds. Temperature around 60° for the start (bring a layer for the Las Tunas descent), reaching the upper 60s in the afternoon.

Coming up next on Saturday, June 1: WE-Ride to Mt Wilson via Big-T. Get your climbing legs ready!

Please keep the following in mind when joining the WE Rides:

• Download the route prior to arrival.

• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.

• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on some WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).

This is an informal self-supported ride and not an official PAA sponsored ride. Neither PAA, the ride leaders, nor the route creators should be held responsible for any accident or injury that may occur during the ride. Please ride safely.
