PAA Racer of the Month – Libby Painter

Women’s team captain Libby has been leading the way for both her team and PAA this season. Her palmeres even extends beyond wins and podiums to lighting the PAA website up with her dance videos! There really is no end to her talents.

 

With such a diverse array of talents, it’s no wonder she was voted PAA Racer of the Month for March 2015. We asked her a few questions to try and get to know her better.

Nickname? Actually it’s Libby… my real name is Elizabeth

 

Who/what inspired you to start cycling?

My brother, he told me for years to get into cycling and I’d be great at it. So I used the money I was going to spend on a Prada handbag and got a bike.

First bike? “First racing bike” Specialized- Amira

 

Childhood hero? I had a big poster of Mia Hamm on my wall. I thought she was badass!

 

What do you love most about cycling? I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD since I was 7 and this is by far the best over the counter medication to keep me focused. And it give me an advantage in the race!

 

Favorite race? My brother and his wife put on the Chico Stage Race, so I’d have to say that’s my favorite race… plus who doesn’t love 4 miles of gravel and 4 stage race!

 

Favorite ride? Any ride that is littered with goofy pics with my gal Candace.

 

How do you keep going when you are on the limit? Pain is temporary and to dig deep, very deep!

 

Racing career highlight? Valley of the Sun Stage, even though I got 2nd in the GC it was a win for me. I took 2nd and road race and finally I took 1st in the Crit. VOS was the first race I did in 2014. I got to go back this year and accomplish my goal of getting on the podium.

 

Job away from cycling? fashion designer and graphic designer

 

Other interests? fashion, old movies, art, hiking

 

Favorite film? Suspicion by Alfred Hitchcock

 

Favorite music? Indie Alternative or Electronic

 

Favorite food? Steak

 

Most famous person you’ve met? Jenna Lyons – J Crews Creative Director

 

Best Advice? My college rowing coach gave me this quote and I have used this concept on and off the bike “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” –T.S. Eliot
