We’re expecting spectacular conditions for a Route 39-East Fork-GMR loop on Saturday. Fresh snow on the mountains down to 3000 feet from Friday’s storm, plus blooming ceanothus and other chapparal in the hills should make this a ride to remember.
This route starts from Encanto Park in Duarte at 9:00 AM. We’re expecting Saturday morning to be quite cool, so dress appropriately.
The route first heads up Route 39 to the East Fork Bridge, and climbs the east fork to Camp Williams, where there is water at the Camp Williams store, whose owners have long been supportive of cyclists. Then we hit the main climb up the north side of GMR. The main route descends the south face of Glendora Mountain into Glendora, then west on Sierra Madre Avenue back to Encanto. Brave souls can add a ride up GRR towards Mount Baldy Village from the GMR summit.

Weather Forecast: Bright sun is forecast all day, but it’s going to be quite chilly in the morning, so bring your jackets and gloves. The sun should warm things up as we climb, though the high in the valley will reach only 62. You’ll need some warm clothes for the GMR descent!
