New! The WE ShLoC Summer Ride for hot days

In light of the closure of the Palos Verdes coastal route, we have decided to postpone our PV ride until there’s more clarity on the road situation, and until our intrepid ride design partners (thank you Martha and Sonja!) work out an alternate that is rich in views and climbs while avoiding heat and crowds.

Instead: We have created the first WE ShLoC ride, building on our beloved ShLoC routes to pilot a shorter and shadier weekend ride that can be completed in the morning before full summer daytime heat makes riding unpleasant. We’ve created an A and B version, so that those who want a more rigorous workout can get in those extra climbs, but both routes are fairly short. We expect that all riders will be finished by 11 at the latest, which will be the perfect time for some coffee or snacks in LCF after the ride.

Start Time: 8:00 AM on Sunday, June 23, from Descanso Gardens.

A Route for Downloadhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/47201843. This route covers 25.6 miles with ~2600 feet climbing.

B Route for Download:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47201674. This route covers 24 miles with ~2300 feet climbing.

Both routes offer riders the option of stopping for coffee, pastry, or a light lunch at the La Cañada Flintridge Town Center. Choices include Panera, Blaze Pizza, Habit Burger, and more.

Weather Forecast: Sunday is forecast to be sunny all day, with morning lows in the low 70s and afternoon highs well into the 90s. We will ride early and be done before that!

Please keep the following in mind when joining the WE Rides:

• Download the route prior to arrival.

• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.

• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on many WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).

This is an informal self-supported ride and not an official PAA sponsored ride. Neither PAA, the ride leaders, nor the route creators should be held responsible for any accident or injury that may occur during the ride. Please ride safely.
