To celebrate high summer and help get ready for the upcoming Summer of Love century, the WE ride for Saturday, June 29, will be a special century ride, organized and developed by Martha Sensel, from Pasadena to Oceanside. The ride also offers the option to do a shorter ride to San Clemente. For the return, riders will take Metrolink back to Union Station and catch the A (Blue) Line of Metro (formerly the Gold line) back to Sierra Madre Villa station or to station(s) of your choice.
Metrolink - Board the Bike Car and please bring a bungee cord to secure your bike to the railing in the Metrolink Bike Car.
Bike Cars are identified by a yellow “Bike Car” decal on the side of the train.
Regular train cars can also accommodate up to 3 bikes if the bike car is full.
From Union Station you will need a TAP card to ride the A train to Pasadena. TAP cards can be purchased at Union Station if you do not already have one. If you want to get one in advance, go to any Metro stop.
This is a relatively easy, very fun, self-supported century, usually with great coastal weather.
To beat the heat and accommodate the distance, this ride will start at 7:00 AM from Sierra Madre Villa Station.

- To catch the 1:55 train, riders will need to maintain an 11 mph average (including all stops).
- There is a later train at 5:50, if needed., which arrives at Union Station at 7:38 PM. (There also are 2 other trains between these two, but they both go to San Bernadino before Union Station - do not take them by mistake!)
- For snacks, Beach Hut Deli and 7-11 are near the train station; if you choose to take the later train, there are many restaurants in the area (please consult Google Maps in advance).
- Bring or purchase a TAP card at Union Station to ride the A train to Pasadena. Can purchase in advance at any Metro station.
Additional information for those continuing to Oceanside:
- We will continue as a group from San Clemente through a beautiful neighborhood and then through the San Onofre campground area.
- We will enter the 5 Freeway at Las Pulgas
- Stay on I-5 for 7 miles. Please ride as a group and watch for debris and, in particular, the rumble strip between the shoulder and main road.
- Enter and exit the auto rest area for safety (rather than crossing where traffic exits freeway to rest area) – see map.

- SPECIAL PERK for Oceanside Riders: Martha's husband Joel will meet us in Oceanside; therefore, he can bring a small backpack with a change of clothes for those going to Oceanside. He will be at the Sierra Madre Villa station at the start of the ride to collect the bags.

• Download the route prior to arrival.
• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.
• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on many WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).
