About this event

Enter Title Here
Riders can start from the Rose Bowl aquatic center and complete the full 100 miles or do a slightly abbreviated version (60 miles) starting and ending at Encato Park.

We have an amazing volunteer, Tony Chenh, who will be SAG at Encanto Park in the afternoon. He is one of the newer members to PAA so make sure to say hi and introduce yourself. Hopefully the ice cold drinks and snacks help our century riders go into the last 20 miles with some invigoration. For our 60 mile riders, we hope you take some time to enjoy a treat to celebrate the completion of a great ride! THANK YOU TONY!

From the Rose Bowl, the route goes through Altadena, Sierra Madre and Monrovia before converging at Encanto Park. We then go East, skirting the foothills until we reach Claremont. The route then heads up Mt. Baldy Road towards Baldy Village and the ski lifts for the biggest climb of the route. 10 miles and 4000’ below the ski lifts (Gotcha!!!), we turn onto Shinn Rd and head down hill to Uplands where there is a lunch stop with a Starbucks, Jersey Mikes and other places to eat.

We then follow the Cucamonga Creek trail down to the Pacific Electric bike trail where we start the journey west. We ride along city streets and make our way back to Encanto Park. We then roll back through Arcadia, San Marino, South Pas, and back to the Rose Bowl.

RIDE NOTES: PLEASE READ

After the turn onto Shinn Road from Mt. Baldy Road, there are rumble strips in the pavement. I advise staying on the road side as the shoulder gets very narrow in places.
For the Cucamonga Creek Trail, you want to ride down the left side of the wash. Cross over the wash and then make the right turn onto the trail. The pavement is not great, so watch your speed going down the hill.
The Pacific Electric path has a number of street crossings and a few where you have to jog onto the sidewalk to reach the intersection. There will probably be lots of pedestrians. Be patient and call out hazards. Otherwise, it is a great path and the pavement is perfect.
The water fountain at Via Verde park (mile 65.5) was out of commission. You can get water from the bathroom sink, or there is a grocery store just down the road on the left (and a donut shop - Ummmmm donuts!!)
Use sunscreen and/or sun protection. There is not a lot of shade along the route.
If for some reason you need to bail out, the Metro A-Line runs from Pasadena out to Pomona North and the Metrolink train has stops in Uplands, Montclair, Claremont, and Pomona North (where you can transfer to the A-line). The closest A-line stop to Encanto is Duarte/City of Hope.

Please keep the following in mind when joining the WE Rides:

• Download the route prior to arrival.

• Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.

• Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while. (Be aware, however, that cell phone reception on many WE-ride routes in the San Gabriel Mountains is very limited).
