PAA is served by a Board of Directors who serve a two-year term and are elected by a vote of the membership at the November meeting for the following calendar year. In addition to duties assigned by the bylaws, Board members also serve other duties within the club.

Dennis McCullough | President
My claim to fame is my birthplace, Punxsutawney, PA…Home of the Groundhog. As a child we moved a few times before settling in the Midwest. As an adult my wife and I settled in Chicago and worked in the theatre community for several years before transplanting to Los Angeles where I began producing commercials.

I’m a resident of South Pasadena and over the years I’ve participated in a few sports, several 5/10k races and a marathon before discovering cycling. I’m loving it. I suppose I’m one of the new wave of MAMILs (middle aged men in lycra). I’ve been cycling for about four years now. I enjoy road biking and manage to get in at least three rides per week. PAA has given me the support to push my abilities and raise my consciousness about cycling as well as develop a network of fellow cyclist who also do not fear lycra.

Dana Lira | VP & Membership Coordinator
I am originally from Maryland, which is where my love of cycling started as a kid. I moved to LA in 1990 for Law School and a bike was the first thing I bought myself after graduation. I'm just getting back into cycling after a couple years off the bike and joined PAA in June 2021.

I went on on my first WoW ride a couple weeks after that (albeit in a cast having broken my thumb falling off my bike) and have been overwhelmed by all of the amazing friendships I've made so quickly. Since I now talk nonstop about PAA to anyone and everyone, I'm excited to join the Board and help grow and sustain our membership.

Jim Small | Treasurer
Born in Pennsylvania, I moved to California when I was about three years old, spent early years riding BMX, then graduated to motorcycles and raced motocross for about seven years, traveling throughout California.

I switched to road bikes in the early 1980’s and have enjoyed riding ever since. I'm employed as a CNC Machinist and enjoy my job immensely.

Nina Waters | Secretary
I was born and raised on the East Coast and I've always loved to ride bikes. I started mountain biking in 2000 and raced many years in the NC/SC XC scene. A new job opportunity moved me to Dallas, Texas - it is true, everything IS bigger in Texas, particularly how long it takes to get to the mountain biking trails, so I began road biking in 2006. My husband, Pieter (also PAA member) and I met in Dallas and then moved to Pasadena in 2017.

PAA has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me a stronger rider, but I also love that I've found a great group of ladies to ride with (WoW) and I get to help empower other women to have fun on the bike.

I started cycling, as it was my preferred method of getting to school as a teenager, and in the same time frame my older brother got me hooked on mountain biking. After 15 years of bike commuting and mountain biking, I became curious about gravel cycling and in 2022 I got my first gravel and road bikes (DNF'ed all three LA Tourist rides that year!). I enjoyed road cycling much more than I expected, but felt a little lost and out of my element trying to figure out where it was safe to ride on the road.

I joined PAA and have been joining every SHLOC, endurance, CSR, and CSDR ride I can attend. With the resources from the gravel/mtb part of the club I've started racing on my mountain bike and challenging myself with some of the gravel events.

Bicycling has always been a focus in my life, from BMX riding as a kid on the central coast of CA, to racing for for the SFSU cycling team in college, racing with the PAA team for more than 20 years, and to meeting my fiancé (and now a fellow PAA member) at Baldy Lodge!

Receiving so much from PAA for decades, I welcome the opportunity to give back as the Sponsorship Coordinator. My role as co-captain of the SFSU team required me to find sponsors, help design kits, and coordinate and run races. So, this position is really in my wheelhouse.

I have seen such tremendous growth and evolution of PAA throughout the years, and look forward to supporting the efforts to keep it the best cycling club in SoCal!

I cycled a bit with my family as a kid and loved to ride my bike for commuting purposes while I lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I also enjoyed going for long - but not long by PAA standards - on converted railroad trails with friends. When I moved to Pasadena, I knew I wanted to do my second triathlon, so I needed to learn where the safe places to cycle were. I joined PAA to find some good routes and meet other folks who love being on their bikes. My first ride was with WoW, and I'm so appreciative of the encouraging, supportive group of women I now enjoy riding with regularly.

Jeremiah Klashorst | CSR Captain
I’m originally from California, but I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I started riding as a commuter in Seattle at the turn of the century. A commuter bike led to a cross bike, which eventually led to a road bike and that’s where I spend most of my saddle time these days.

Skipping ahead a few years, we ditched the rain and moved to sunny Los Angeles in 2015. I joined PAA shortly after that to meet other cyclists and discover new routes. I joined the committee that plans our monthly club supported rides in 2022 and took over leadership of that group this year.

Cycling will forever remind me of my first taste of freedom and self-reliance. I was born in Kansas City, MO and for my 6th birthday I received a bike with a big purple bow. That bike took me on my first solo adventure to the park and library. Conquering the “big hill” provides the same sense of empowerment as Mount Wilson does now!

I joined PAA years ago for the monthly CSR deal, but I’ve gained so much more—friends, motivation, and a real passion for cycling. The community has pushed me to ride harder and even try mountain biking for the first time. Cycling is all about the journey, and I’m grateful for all PAA does to support that. As a board member, I’m excited to give back and help others discover the same joy and camaraderie that got me hooked.

I started cycling 8 years ago, what began as a doctor’s recommendation to help manage a health condition, slowly grew into a true passion as I fell in love with the sport and everything that comes with it. During the COVID years, I went from being an occasional cyclist to becoming more involved in the cycling community. Through PAA, I met friends who encouraged me to join a Zwift racing team, which eventually opened the door to road, cyclocross, and mountain bike racing with PAA.

My cycling journey reached a major milestone when I won the State Championship in 2023. Beyond the competition, what I value most is the camaraderie, support, and sense of family I’ve found within the PAA community throughout the years. I also enjoy bringing PAA friends together for dirt rides like Dirt Fri-Yay and Wednesday Happy Hour rides. I look forward to seeing everyone on the road and on the dirt.
