We couldn’t resist planning another route up and over beloved Glendora Mountain roads when we heard the roads are closed to traffic over the holiday weekend. And! While we are at it, why not combine some of our favorites into one big ride? Right? Here is the plan and please know that this route offers many opportunities to turn back. We marked the return options with a (r) for your convenience.
Starting from Encanto Park in Duarte head to the start of Glendora Mountain Road in Glendora, take the road up to the saddle (r1) and down to where it meets East Fork Road (r2), continue on by passing Camp Williams (here you can fill your water bottle or buy food at the store) to the intersection of Shoemaker Road (r3); Shoemaker will dead-end, turn back the same way you came and climb back up the backside of GMR (r4); at the fork of GMR/GRR keep to your left and go to Baldy Village. If you have it in you and need the fix of over 10,000 feet of elevation, don’t miss the ski lifts! The Baldy Lodge is a great meet up spot to nourish yourself with some good food and drink before heading back via GRR/GMR.
Are you ready?
Let’s meet at Encanto at 7:00 am or 7:30 if you prefer to meet up at Carlyle Equestrian Center on GMR.
Take extra water, please, as it might get a bit toasty along the route. The only place to fill up your bottles will be at Carlyle Equestrian Center, Camp Williams and Baldy Village.
Here are the route details:
Starting Location 1: 7:00am at Encanto Park
Starting Location 2: 7:30am at Carlyle Equestrian Center
Ride Organizer: Sigi Caldera
Distance: Many options..
The Weekend Endurance (WE) Rides no longer use ride leaders for each pace group. Instead, a ride organizer will launch each ride with route tips and be available to answer any questions. We’ll continue to have different pace groups, but each will be self-directed.
Please keep the following in mind when joining the WE Rides:
Download the route prior to arrival.
Be self-sufficient, prepared to handle flats and minor bike repairs.
Carry a cell phone in case of emergency or to get that Uber ride needed every once in a while.
This is an informal self-supported ride and not an official PAA sponsored ride. Neither PAA, the ride leaders, nor the route creators should be held responsible for any accident or injury that may occur during the ride. Please ride safely.
